چکیده

Spurred by the success of perceptual models in audio coding applications, researchers have recently begun to address audio signal enhancement in a similar manner. Here we consider the case of musical recordings degraded by additive broadband noise such as tape hiss, in which the prevention of signal distortion is tantamount to noise removal. We review perceptually motivated approaches to music restoration and describe a statistical model based framework we have recently proposed. By integrating psychoacoustics into the restoration process through the use of perceptual optimality criteria, our method aims to take advantage of human auditory perception to yield improvements in both noise reduction and perceived signal fidelity. Feature-Based Synthesis: A Tool for Evaluating, Designing, and Interacting with Music IR Systems

We present a general framework for performing featurebased synthesis – that is, for producing audio characterized by arbitrarily specified sets of perceptually motivated, quantifiable acoustic features of the sort used in many music information retrieval systems.

Perceptually-Based Evaluation of the Errors Usually Made When Automatically Transcribing Music

This paper investigates the perceptual importance of typical errors occurring when transcribing polyphonic music excerpts into a symbolic form. The case of the automatic transcription of piano music is taken as the target application and two subjective tests are designed. The main test aims at understanding how human subjects rank typical transcription errors such as note insertion, deletion or...

Visual Mining in Music Collections

We describe the MusicMiner system for organizing large collections of music with databionic mining techniques. Visualization based on perceptually motivated audio features and Emergent Self-Organizing Maps enables the unsupervised discovery of timbrally consistent clusters that may or may not correspond to musical genres and artists. We demonstrate the visualization capabilities of the U-Map. A...

Perceptually motivated bit-allocation for H.264 encoded video sequences

This work presents a new perceptually motivated bit allocation strategy for Region of Interest (ROI) coding in video sequences. It is not possible to assure any minimum target foreground quality in the approaches reported so far in the literature. In our proposed strategy reported herein, the bit-allocation is based on a target quality for the foreground and allowing perceptually tolerable grac...

Pitch slope and end point as turn-taking clues in Swedish

This paper examines the relevance of parameters related to slope and end-point of pitch segments for indicating turn-taking intentions in Swedish. Perceptually motivated stylization in Prosogram was used to characterize the last pitch segment in talkspurts involved in floor-keeping and turnyielding events. The results suggest a limited contribution of pitch pattern direction and position of its...
